4 Ways to Wear a Button Up Shirt

One of the most basic pieces of all wardrobe basics is a white button up shirt. A staple item that has been around for decades and doesn't look like it's going anywhere.

It's been known as the traditional work wear shirt but has definitely transitioned into something more versatile. It's a simple piece that can be worn with every single thing in your closet and in so many different ways. Keep reading for tips on how to style the simple white button up using pieces of clothing that are always in your wardrobe.

1. Style with denim (distressed or embellished)

One of my favorite trends right now is embellished denim. It's fun and of course different from the typical pairs of jeans that are seen on a daily. Because they stand out, it can be hard to find the perfect top to wear with them. So, I like to keep it simple and wear a button up. It keeps the look clean and classic but still very chic. Any type of shoe can go with this look depending on the occasion.

2. Pair with trousers and/or track pants

This is my absolute favorite combo! I love a good, tailored slack that fit's to a T. Slacks have become a go-to for me in substitution for jeans. They're comfy and make any outfit look put together without even trying.

3. Layer underneath a dress or top

This has to be one of my favorite combinations. With this bipolar weather here in Maryland, it's always good to layer. It's also the perfect added piece to any spring/summer dress. I'm all about versatility and transitional pieces. Being able to throw on a simple button up underneath your favorite slip dress can really take your outfit to whole other level.

4. Wear with a skirt or shorts

I'm all about showing some leg! An easy style tip I live by is if you're covered on top, you can show off some skin down the bottom and vice versa. You never want to be too revealing so a simple button up can turn your casual outfit into a classic look.
