Who you Should be following on Social Media

Does anybody else have a love/hate relationship with social media? I know I do. Lately, I've noticed myself focusing more on what other people were doing and less on myself. It wasn't always like this though. Prior to being a business owner, I followed whoever followed me. I didn't want to be that person who, "didn't follow back". But it was getting to a point where I was following too many of the wrong people. And as an entrepreneur working on growing my business and into my purpose, I knew something had to change.

Social media is a great tool for so many things but it's not so great when you spend too much of your time keeping up with someone else's life instead of yours. I always hear people say "enjoy the journey" or "success doesn't happen over night", but how can you focus on yourself when you see people on your timeline making money, vacationing in a different city every night and doing EXACTLY what you want to do? Yes, that's the type of life we all want to live, eventually. But until then, I personally need some motivation. I need to see people grinding harder than me to get what they want. I need to be inspired. Yes, it's okay to follow a hand full of people who you consider to be #goals, but its also okay to unfollow some of those people who make you question if you're even on the right path at all.

Here are a few types of people who you should consider following on social media:
People who interest you
Your interests change over time so the people who you thought were interesting may not be so interesting after awhile. Who you follow is all about personal preference. When you're scrolling through your timeline, you're going to want to see people that you want to see. If they share content that makes you happy, then you should follow them.
(friends, family, brands, entertainment, other products/services, ect.)
Professionals in your field
It's not what you do, but how you do it. There are so many people and companies doing the same exact thing but are still quite successful in their own way. Watch what they're doing and mimic what works best for you. I like to follow successful people in my field to watch their journey and pick up on little tips and tricks to help me get to where I want to be in my business and life.
But be mindful because what works for some people, may not work for you.
(business owners, brands, professionals, entrepreneurs, ect.)
Your customers
Your customers or potential customers are important to follow, especially if they're a fan of the products/services you're offering. These are the types of followers that you want to build a lasting relationship with and which could possibly lead to referrals and more connections. But you should also be mindful of what type of content your customer is posting. Yes, they may love what you do but you may not love what they do enough to follow them.
(your target market, niche market)
Your partners
You should be following the brands and/or people you've collaborated with and/or who you're affiliated with. It simply shows them support and allows you to stay connected with them.
(brands, other professionals, creatives, potential people/brands you want to work with)

This post wasn't written to tell you exactly who you should follow but simply, the type of people you should consider following to keep you on the right path to success. With that being said, I challenge you to purge your social media accounts and unfollow whoever doesn't interest you, motivate you, benefit you and who just isn't a good follow.
